Providing non-invasive sessions including massage, stretching and strengthening exercises to enhance your equine partner’s health and wellness.
Providing equine massage services in Calgary and southern Alberta, I am a certified Equinology Equine Bodyworker EEBW and Equinology Equine Myofascial Release specialist EEMFR with over 1200 hours of education and training. With an education heavily based in anatomy I believe that it is very important to have a strong understanding of what lies beneath the skin, how it is all connected and how soft tissue manipulation on one part of the body will affect another part. Applying this knowledge is the best way to safely and effectively produce lasting results for your equine athlete or friend.
Our services include a full initial assessment of your horse and your tack, full body massage, stretching and strengthening exercises. I believe that the power of touch and feel is extremely important to the outcome of the massage and for this reason I do not use any other tools in your horses massage.
Each bodywork session will be specifically designed to target the areas that most affect your equine partner using any of the modalities that I think will benefit your horse the most. I will leave you with exercises and stretches to work on with your horse between appointments in order to keep them feeling their best and continue the benefits and build on each bodywork session.
Modalities may include, Massage, Myofascial Release, Kinesiology taping and more!
BEMER Horse set sessions are also available for your horse. A light weight blanket that provides PEMF therapy to your horse in a safe, efficient and targeted manner. BEMER sessions encourage relaxation, promote healing and increase overall microcirculation encouraging the removal of waste products and replacing them with the healing properties of healthy cells. BEMER has been scientifically shown to reduce lumbar epaxial back pain in horses in a study releases in 2022 by the Colorado State University. We are happy to provide you with that study upon request!
Just like us our equine partners will perform and feel better when they are more flexible and agile. As the horse’s muscles become more supple, the wear and tear on the joints, ligaments and tendons reduces, equating to an increased range of motion and a longer performance life.
Massage can not only improve all of these aspects but can also lead to improved overall performance and gait. By improving the circulation through massage we can aid the horse in healing and stimulate the elimination of waste products.
Massage can also aid in decreasing tactile defence in your equine partner. That horse that dislikes having his ears touched may in fact be having pain in their neck, the horse that dislikes having their girth area touched may be having pain in their back or shoulders all of which may be relieved as the muscles are massaged, stretched and healed.
Each equine athlete requires and deserves a bodywork session that is specific to them and the sport in which they perform. Check out our page on sport specific massage to see what muscle groups should be targeted for your specific sport. If you don’t see your event, drop me a line and we can discuss the needs of your individual equine partner!
